Frequently Asked Questions
Choosing a financial planner is an important decision, and it’s natural to have questions before you take the next step. Our FAQ section provides clear, straightforward answers about who we are, what we do, and how we work.
If you can’t find the information you need, we’re always happy to help. Just give us a call or book a free initial conversation.

What do you do?
At Manning Gee Investments, we provide independent, FCA-regulated financial planning tailored to your goals and values. Our service combines financial planning, investment management and tax-efficient strategies to help you make confident long-term decisions.
We support clients across areas such as:
- Financial Planning & Goal Setting – Creating a clear, personal roadmap for your future.
- Retirement Planning – Designing sustainable, tax-efficient retirement income strategies.
- Tax-Efficient Planning – Helping you make effective use of allowances and structure your finances wisely.
- Inheritance Tax Planning – Using strategies to reduce liabilities within your overall plan.
- Mortgage Advice – Independent guidance for first-time buyers, movers and landlords.
Our focus is always on clarity, simplicity and doing what is right for you.
Do I have to be wealthy to work with you?
No. We welcome clients with £100,000 of investable assets.
Many advisers start at £300,000, but our focus is on providing clear, accessible financial planning to people who want long-term guidance, not just high-net-worth investors.
What happens in the first meeting?
Your first meeting is simply a conversation. There’s:
- No cost
- No paperwork
- No obligation
We’ll listen to what you want to achieve and explain how we can help. You only decide to move forward if you feel we’re the right fit.
Is there any pressure to proceed after the initial consultation?
No. The initial conversation is simply a chance to understand your situation and see whether we’re the right fit. There’s no obligation to proceed, and we’ll only move forward if working together feels right for both sides.
Do you offer ongoing support or one-off advice?
Most clients choose ongoing support because life changes and plans need to be updated. However, we can provide one-off advice where appropriate (for example, mortgage advice). We’ll help you select the option that suits your needs.
How often will we meet?
We meet at least once a year, but you can reach out anytime you need support. If something changes in your life, we’re here to guide you through it.
Will I have to pay tax on my investments?
Some investments and pensions may generate taxable income or gains. When this happens, we will explain what the potential implications are and help you understand what needs to be reported.
While we are not tax specialists, we:
- Provide clear guidance
- Work closely with your accountant
- Recommend trusted professionals where needed
- Ensure you have the information required for HMRC reporting
Ultimately, you are responsible for reporting income to HMRC, but we make sure you understand your obligations.
What information do I need to provide?
To give you accurate advice, we’ll ask for details about:
- Your income and expenditure
- Existing pensions and investments
- Savings and cash accounts
- Any loans or liabilities
- Protection policies
- Your goals, values and timeframes
We guide you through the process and make it as simple as possible.
How long does the process take?
Typically:
- Initial meeting: Within a week or two of contact
- Plan preparation: 2–4 weeks
- Implementation: Depends on providers, usually 2–6 weeks
We’ll keep you updated at each stage, so you always know what’s happening. Mortgages depend on factors beyond our control.
Do you work remotely as well as in person?
Yes. We work with clients across the UK.
You can meet with us:
- In person
- Over video call
- By phone
Do you provide ethical or sustainable investment options?
Yes. We offer a range of sustainable and responsible investment options for clients who want their portfolio to reflect their values. We can discuss these choices during your planning meetings.
How do you protect my personal information?
We store all information securely and comply with strict GDPR requirements. Only members of our team who need access to your information will see it. We will never share your data without your permission.
What if markets fall after I invest?
Market downturns are normal. We build your plan and portfolio around long-term goals, not short-term movements. Regular reviews, disciplined asset allocation and ongoing guidance help keep you on track.
What makes your approach different from other financial planners?
- We welcome clients from £100,000
- We avoid jargon and keep planning simple
- We focus on values and wellbeing, not just numbers
- We work as a small, consistent team
- We offer clear fees and full transparency
Everything we do is designed to give you confidence and clarity.
Do you advise on crypto investments?
No. We do not provide advice on buying, selling or holding cryptoassets.
Crypto investments are largely unregulated in the UK and can be extremely volatile. They are not covered by the Financial Services Compensation Scheme (FSCS), and investors should be prepared for the possibility of losing their entire investment.
Our focus is on regulated, tax-efficient financial planning and building diversified portfolios designed to grow and protect wealth over the long term.
If you already hold cryptoassets, we can help you understand how they fit within your wider financial position. Where appropriate, we may assist you in diversifying into a broader, more stable investment strategy — provided the source of funds is clear, transparent and compliant with anti-money laundering regulations.
We do not advise on the suitability of specific crypto holdings.
Do you work with business owners?
Yes. We regularly support business owners with retirement planning, investment strategies, tax planning and financial wellbeing.
Can you help with workplace financial education?
Yes. Through our workplace specialists, we support employers and employees with financial wellbeing, pension guidance and long-term planning.
What is your regulated status?
We are authorised and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) under reference number 844546.
As an independent financial planning firm, we act solely in your best interests and follow strict standards designed to protect you.
What are your fees?
We believe fees should be transparent and easy to understand. You will always know what you’re paying and why.
Typical fees:
- Initial advice fees: 1.5% – 3.0%
- Ongoing advice and investment management: 1.0% per year
There are no hidden charges or surprises, and we explain everything clearly before any work begins.
Who will look after me?
You’ll have a dedicated financial planner as your main point of contact. Because we’re a small and closely connected team, someone familiar with your situation is always available to help if your adviser is away.
What matters most to Manning Gee Investments?
Trust, transparency and long-term relationships sit at the core of our approach. We focus on:
- Doing what is right for each client
- Avoiding product bias or sales pressure
- Providing clear, values-led advice
- Keeping fees and processes fully transparent
We want you to feel confident and supported at every stage.
Do you have external independent oversight?
Yes. In addition to FCA regulation, we work with an external compliance firm that reviews our advice files, processes and governance. This provides additional assurance that our work meets the highest standards.
What is it like to work with Manning Gee Investments?
Clients often tell us they value having the space to talk things through properly, with advice shaped around their lives rather than products. Our role is to bring clarity and reassurance, helping you feel confident about your long-term financial decisions.
What are your long-term plans?
We are committed to long-term stability and continuity. With Managing Director Sam Gee (aged 45) and a growing leadership team, we aim to support clients and their families for decades to come.
What happens if I want to leave?
While we hope to build a long-term partnership with you, we understand circumstances can change. If you decide to leave, the process is simple, transparent and penalty-free.
